Kaikoura's coastal landscape is home to more seabird species in a small area than anywhere else in the New Zealand. It is among the best places in the world to see the mighty albatross, one of the world's largest flying birds.

Albatross Encounter brings you up close to a considerable array of seabirds including albatross, petrels, shearwaters, shags, terns and gulls. These species all occur naturally within a close proximity of the Kaikoura Peninsula.

As well as informative on-board commentary, you receive an information pack detailing the species sighted and explaining Kaikoura's abundant natural history.

Albatross species are under threat around the globe and Albatross Encounter proudly supports Southern Seabird Solutions, a trust that promotes seabird-friendly fishing methods.

Albatross Encounter offers three tours daily during summer at 6.00am, 9.00am and 1.00pm. During winter there are two daily tours at 9.00am and 1.00am.
